- Diesel is about twice as efficient as petrol. Engines that run on petrol are approximately 20% efficient – with the remaining energy going on friction, noise, function and excess heat, but diesel is at least 40% efficient when it comes to moving your vehicle
- Diesel is even more efficient when used at altitude due to the thinner air. Petrol vehicles work on a ratio of fuel to air, but thinner air means it has to work harder. Diesel engines perform much better because of the way they are built and designed, with turbochargers which store air in chambers
- Spilt diesel will struggle to cause a fire as it is much less flammable than petrol fuel. We wouldn’t recommend testing this theory but trust us when we say that diesel requires a lot of pressure to remain alight
- That being said, diesel spills are still dangerous, especially when mixed with water as it can become very slippery
- Diesel is environmentally friendly due to the way diesel engines work and they are a very viable option because the technology is already in use
- Diesel is less of a pollutant than petrol because of filters that can remove the worst parts of the by-products
- It might tend to cost more per litre, but diesel is much more efficient meaning you get a lot more for your money!
